University Art Show 2017
NEVER DISSEMBLE Brené Brown once said that, “Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are.” I want to be that authentic and I want to inspire others to do the same. It can be very challenging to confront yourself with the intention of letting go of who we think we are supposed to be. It can also be terrifying to not only embrace who we really are, but to discover what that even means. Part of embracing who we really are is to never dissemble. To Never Dissemble is to not give a false impression. Being sincere, honest, true to our own character. My show features a combination of photography and graphic design hung in a grid of 4 works by 5 works. I have chosen to use digital media because of its versatility and expression. I chose to hang all 20 works closely together so that they could stand alone as individual works of art but so that they would also be able to function together to communicate an overall message of authenticity and work together as a whole. I have drawn inspiration for the theme of this show from a select group of authentic people in my life, and a few of them have been featured in the photography of my show. Being genuine and honest in how you act and treat others can be challenging, but it is so important. I admire the character that it takes to be genuine and never dissemble.
